Introducing Colorado Pickaxe
If the motto, “Prying loose the truth about Colorado politics and culture,” strikes you as pretentious, take it as an aspiration.
I’ll aim to produce at least a weekly “roundup” with my commentary on recent news and views. I’ll probably also publish stand-alone opinion pieces. Potentially I’ll move toward publishing every week day; I’ll see how things go. (I’m also writing a weekly column elsewhere, editing a book, and homeschooling a six-year-old, so I have a lot going on.) I plan to make all of my articles available for free. I do hope you’ll consider a paid subscription anyway to help support my work, as it is enormously time-consuming. I’ll set comments to paid subscribers only.
A bit about me: I first started writing about Colorado politics and culture in 1998 (before the term “blog” had been coined, as I like to point out, which maybe just makes me sound old). I’ve written regularly for a variety of publications, including Grand Junction’s Free Press (now defunct), Boulder Weekly, the Colorado Sun, and (currently) Complete Colorado. I also run the Self in Society podcast and write occasional articles at AriArmstrong.com. I come at things from a free-market and individualist (classical liberal) perspective. I try hard not to tolerate (or fall into) dogmatism. I like to think I’ve grown wiser and more mature over the years and that my views have become more subtle.
Why Substack? I wanted a fresh start. And Substack makes the publishing, the email lists, and paid subscriptions easy. I hope you’ll join me.
